Private English lessons · Ciudad de la Costa English at home, without driving them anywhere.
Ciudad de la Costa and Carrascoin your home, from Year 1 to Year 6
Six years in the classroom at an IB school, from Year 1 to Year 6. I know how a PYP child learns and where they get stuck: phonics, reading, speaking. I come to your home and we work on exactly that, one-to-one, week after week. There is always a next step.
I know their school from the inside.
It is probably the same kind of school you take them to, one that follows the IB programme. I was part of its primary teaching staff, so I know the methodology, the assessment criteria and the points in the year when the pressure builds.
That is why the first visit is a diagnostic assessment, not a placement test. Its purpose is to understand what is going on with your child, which often has little to do with English. Out of it comes an individual plan, built on task-based learning, with clear goals and progress followed visit by visit.
Teaching begins with understanding the learner.

What children say, and what we do about it.
-
I’m afraid my classmates will laugh at me when I speak English.*
It makes sense: in class there are twenty classmates watching. At home there are only a few of us, and getting it wrong stops being a risk. That is when they start to find the courage to speak.
-
I feel overwhelmed by how much there is to learn.*
It is true, there is a great deal. That is why I introduce it little by little, in more manageable parts. Once they see one come right, what follows feels lighter.

What if I do badly?
It is a fair worry, and the best answer is to arrive prepared. I know what they will be asked and when, so we reach the test with the topic already covered, without the nerves of the night before.
And if what is going on reaches beyond schoolwork, I will raise it with you. At school I worked alongside the educational psychology team, so I can recognise the early signs and know when a referral to a specialist is the right step.

From ‘I can’t do it’ to ‘I did it!’
There is no single recipe: every child starts from a different place.
We start from them
I listen to my pupils and learn first-hand what they find hard or need to strengthen.
I also work with the material they bring from school, so that what we do ties in with what they are studying.
Support made to measure
Support can take different forms, depending on the area that needs work and on what the children enjoy.
Every activity is designed with them in mind.
I tell you how it is going
At the end of each lesson I tell you how they got on and what we will work on next.
That way you can see how, lesson by lesson, English becomes more and more their own.
